Maddogs Unable to Stop Old Boys' Winning Streak

Riding high on the hopes of victory after a hard fought tie in last year's match, the Maddogs prepared to take on the Northeastern Old Boys Saturday at Parsons Field.

However, this optimism melted quickly as the on-field temperature approached 100 degrees. Not missing a beat, the Alumni came out hot, pushing the Dogs back into their own territory and stifling them with a couple of quick tries.

The story was much of the same for two of the three 20-minute periods, as the NOB's put their deep bench to work. By employing an unrelenting supply of fresh legs, the senior ruggers jumped out to a substantial lead by the start of the last period of play.

For the final period the Maddogs were able to hold their ground, matching the brand of smash-mouth rugby that the Old Boys were utilizing on this day. Strong play by the forwards allowed the Dogs to get the ball out to the backs, forcing some runs into opposing territory. A slew of mental mistakes served to curb their momentum, however, and the Alumni effort proved too much.

In the end, the Northeastern Old Boys found themselves on the winning end of a 37-0 tally, ensuring their Alumni Game unbeaten streak would live to see another year.
