The Maddogs won for the second week in a row this Saturday, beating Boston College 30-25 in a late afternoon match at Parsons Field.
Once again, the Dogs struck first, scoring in the corner after a solid kick to touch put them inside the Eagles' 22 meter line. After the first score, the Northeastern defense forced Boston College to play a forwards game, stifling their ability to spin the ball out to their speedy backs.
The BC forwards rucked well and matched the red-and-black's hard-nosed play up front, but the Maddogs continued their assault. The home team delighted their biggest crowd yet, countering the Eagles' attack with some solid contact of their own, winning scrums and line outs alike. The Dogs' efforts allowed them to put a few tries on the board before the half, and going into the break they had a substantial lead.
After the intermission Northeastern was unable to match the intensity it showed in the first half, and Boston College began to mount a comeback. The Eagles managed a long run down their sideline, setting up a try and converting the kick. Boston College spent most of the second half in Maddog territory, moving their opposition backwards.
A Boston College penalty allowed Northeastern to get the ball back, and they prompty found some gaps in the Eagle defense, scoring again in the final minutes. This proved to be the difference as the clock ran out on Boston College.
This Saturday, October 8, the Maddogs travel to West Point to take on Army at 6:00 p.m. The Black Knights are a yearly contender for the national title, and the Dogs look forward to the challenge.
