Saturday, April 24th, 2004
By Lori Herbert

The Northeastern University Maddogs closed out a winning season with both A and B sides emerging as 2004 Beanpot Tournament champions at Franklin Park on Saturday, April 24. After defeating Boston University, 46-0, the Dogs went on to face the Harvard Crimson in heated matches under sunny but windy conditions. The Crimson got the match rolling by making effective use of their kicking game, racking up points early in the match. The Maddogs responded by turning up the heat, keeping the Crimson out of scoring range and bringing a physical game onto the pitch.

The Dogs’ strategy paid off…smash mouth rugby, with outstanding scrums and rucks, combined with the Crimson kicking into the wind, enabled the Dogs to come out on top, 29-11.

After the matches, the Boston Rugby Club, sponsors of the tournament, announced all-star selections. Six Northeastern players were chosen to field an all-star team of 15. Game balls and shirts were presented to the honored all-star players. Additional pictures may be purchased from Spencer Leonard.
