Once again the Northeastern University Maddogs were dominant, beating opponents Boston College and Harvard University at the Metropolitan Boston Cup NERFU Collegiate Trials at Pine Banks, Malden. As a result, 12 Maddog players were selected to compete at the NERFU Collegiate Cup on May 1 at Pine Banks. It was a huge honor for the Dogs, with Maddog players representing nearly half of the 30 players chosen from the various teams. It is planned that 22 will dress for the game on May 1.
The Northeastern defense stood like a brick wall for the majority of their first game against Boston College, allowing only two tries by throughout the match. In the end the Maddogs came out on top with a winning score of 22-14.
After a brief rest, the bloodthirsty Maddogs went back into battle against Harvard University. The playing was intense and the first half was a constant fight for field position. The Maddog veterans and younger players played together like a well-oiled machine in the second half, with a newer player making a half-field run ending in a penalty try to tie it up at 12-12 with only a few minutes left in the game. Shortly after, the vicious Maddogs made another try ending the game 19-12. The day proved once again that the Maddogs are a force to be reckoned with and a team that holds unlimited potential and dedication day in and day out. What other team can bring their A game twice in one day and walk off the field still hungry for more?
Once again the Northeastern Maddogs would like to thank the Mystic River Rugby Club for their support and generous use of their pitch. We hope to see everyone at the Beanpot Tournament on Saturday, April 24! Directions to the game will be posted on our website.
