Finally back in Boston for more rugby, the Northeastern
University Maddogs continued their spring campaign this past weekend with
another visit to Pine Banks Park in Malden to host visitors UNH. The match-up
featured a continually rotated line-up of older and younger players, all of
whom contributed to a decisive 53-5 Maddog victory.
It was try time right from the start of the match as the Dogs exploded out of the gates putting up seven points in the first five minutes, 17 in the first ten minutes, 31 in the first twenty-five minutes, and leaving the forty minute mark with 43 points. Though the UNH squad was undermanned in their substitute supply they managed the first try of the second half, but would fall silent for the remainder of the game, unable to answer the next ten points added by the Dogs.
The match was once again characteristic of the all-around tough rugby put forward by both the backs and forwards, with credit given to the younger corps of players that stepped it up. A spirited extra quarter was played between the two sides to ensure all players got an equal amount of playing time.
Once again the team would like to thank the Mystic River Rugby Club for their hospitality. Please join the Maddogs A side next week back at Pine Banks Park where they will be featured in the NERFU Select Side tournament on Saturday, and the B side in Portsmouth, RI for the annual Beast of the East tournament all weekend.
