This past weekend the blood thirsty Mad Dogs took on the newest introduction to the white league; the UMASS Minuteman. It was a beautiful day for rugby and equally as pleasurable for the Mad Dogs. Within the first five minutes the Dogs put one up in the corner. A missed conversion had the game at 5 – 0. The Dogs continued with excellent defensive pressure giving a penalty at twenty minutes with a good kick to make it 8 – 0. Continuous work in the backs forced the opponent’s defense to spread wide. A great 8 man read on the defense gave the Dogs another one with a pick from the scrum to make it 13 – 0. The Dogs continued to feed off the intensity from the sideline and players alike with the ferociousness building, as did the score. Quick ball out wide to the fullback and winger gave a two on one 10 meters out with the Mad Dogs capitalizing to make the score just minutes before halftime 20 – 0.
The second half began just as the first; with a try for the Dogs. Excellent inside running once again pulled the opponents defense in. Quick ball out to the winger yet again proved to be another lethal part of the Mad Dog team. The Dogs excellent defense continued throughout the game putting more and more pressure on the opponents. The pressure amounted to a 5 meter scrum in favor of the Dogs and once again, they were able to capitalize on the inside. Final score: Mad Dogs 32, UMASS 0. Overall the Dogs were pleased. Being able to shut out a team that had scored 89 total points in the previous two games was no small demand.
This week Army travels to the home of the Mad Dogs hoping to put up a fight. Come one come all to see the Dogs battle it out with the leagues top ranked team. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
