The remanants of Hurrican Ivan swept through Boston this past Saturday to turn Madison Park into a small pond. While rain continued to fall most of the game, the Maddogs took on the Harvard Crimson. The Crimson were out looking for blood after being unable to beat the Dogs all of last season. Harvard scored very early in the match after stealing a pass and kicking the ball over the remaining defense. In the enrsuing foot race, the Maddogs were called for obstructing the kicker and Harvard was awarded a penalty try. They converted the kick to make it a 7-0 game.
The Dogs were a little disheartened, but continued to fight. The Maddogs would not let another try in for the rest the game and threatened many times. On one such occasion, the Dogs brought the ball to the try line after great passing from the forwards to the backs. The Dogs were in the try zone and put the ball down, but a penalty was called against the Dogs instead of a try.
The times that Harvard did threaten, the Maddogs defense continued from last year to play a tough and solid game. Harvard had a few attempts at the try line, but could not break the defense for the last couple of yards needed for the try. However, the Dogs did give up two penalties that were converted, making the game 13-0 at half time.
In the second half, with the rain subsiding and the wind at their backs, the Dogs spent most of the half mid-field or in the offensive third. It appeared that everytime the Dogs started to threaten, a penalty would be called against them. The Dogs were unable to score and the game ended 13-0.
Next Game: The Maddogs travel to Durham, NH to play UNH at 10:00 a.m.
