The Maddog class of 2027 is growing fast as we now have a full backline in place.

Please congratulate Apu and his wife Daisy on the birth of their baby boy, Nathan Peter Sebastian, (aka- Mini Pu).  Mini-Pu was born 10/29 at 7:15pm and both Mini-Pu and mom are doing great.

One of the maddest of all maddogs has reproduced. Circumstances around this birth are far too graphic and appalling to post on this site.  Congratulations  Brother!

It’s that time of year again, time to brush off your check book and support the team that helped you become the men you are today.  We have made great strides as an organization and are on our way to becoming the dominant force we were know as in the 80’s and 90’s; but we need your help.

We have secured one of the best coaching staff’s in all of rugby and have supported the kids in helping with this turn around, but success does not come cheap.  Please make a gift today.

Jon Hagan, FONUR President, will be sending out the Maddog Alumni Quarterly letter with complete details in the next month or you can check the maddog website weekly for game updates and team/alumni news.  www.maddogs.neu.edu

Without your generosity this team would not be unable to compete in one of the greatest divisions in all of collegiate rugby and all of our contributing member should be proud of what we are doing as an organization.

To make a gift simply follow the link in green to the upper right.  PLEASE BE SURE TO DESIGNATE YOUR GIFT TO ATHLETICS- CLUB-MENS RUGBY ALUMNI.  Once completed e-mail me so I can be sure your gift is designated to the correct account. rcasolaro@rncadvisors.com

Our goal is to raise $20,000 before year end- I will keep you all updated on our progress weekly.

Thanks for your continued support!!!

The NU maddog took it's first step in rebuilding a winning team this week..... from the bottom up. The rookie C-side played a controlled scrimmage this past Tuesday vs. Harvard and I'm proud to say the young dogs completely outplayed the Ivy kids. The mostly freshmen C-side team manhandled Harvard who seemed as if they were waiting for someone to tell them what to do the entire scrimmage. The rookie maddog team was by far the more aggressive squad, defensively with great tackling and offensively with some hard punishing runs. See the post game team photo below.

This Saturday at 1pm the maddog A-side squad will make that next step when they play BC at the Irish Cultural Center In Canton. Get down there and cheer on the maddog at this amazing rugby facility.

The following weeks A-side game is home vs. UConn on SUNDAY! 7pm at Parsons field.

A message from Jon Hagan, FONUR President

Friends of Northeastern University Rugby (FONUR) would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who made the 2009 Rugby Alumni Weekend a success.  On the weekend of June 5th, over 100 former men's rugby players and their families participated in one of four weekend festivities.  The highlight was the  Saturday afternoon match at Parson's Field which saw a talented Northeastern Old Boys Squad (NOBS) battle an upstart undergrad side in an entertaining match with the NOBS winning by a try ( 5 points).

Once again a substantial amount of money was raised for The NU Men's Rugby Team (NURFC) over the weekend with The Annual Friday Morning Golf Tournament being a sell-out event with over 80 golfers participating.  Fiscal year 2009 saw FONUR raise nearly $23,000 towards the Men's Rugby Alumni Endowment and Coaching Account.  FONUR and NURFC continue to collaborate on fundraising ideas and hope to continue to grow this account in 2010, $100,000 remains our first goal.

The focus of FONUR remains to engage our alumni network for support in securing and maintaining a professional coaching staff for The Men's Rugby Team.  Consistent scheduled practice time of two hours, two times weekly on alternating days is imperative to the competitiveness of Men's Rugby.  This allows the paid coaching staff to educate and train the team producing a winning product for NU.  While there is still much work to do, Jerry Foster and Steve Belowsky of NU Club Sport's recent work in securing space for the team is much appreciated.

All organizations within Rugby at Northeastern University appreciate your ongoing support.  We look forward to next year’s Annual Rugby Alumni Weekend the first weekend in June 2010 and The First Annual NOBS Tour scheduled for the Saranac Lake Tournament the first weekend of August 2010.

 Thank You and Go NU!!,

25th Alumni Weekend 2009

After a fall season that many saw as a low point in NURFC history, and a club win/loss record to back  up that notion, the undergrad squad came out two Saturdays ago and proved to be TRUE maddogs with blood, guts and skill!  They played a fantastic game against a massive and vicious NOB team that was hell bent on destruction from the initial kickoff.  The maddog squad could have easily won this game.  The undergrad defense stood its ground many times in their own end and they were able to mount several attacks with well played rugby, only to fall to a NOB team that has a long history of stifling D.   I must say it was cool to see the undergrads evolve during the game as the instinct to survive too over.  I believe they learned  a valuable lesson on just how vicious you need to be to take a team to the next level.  Hopefully they ALSO learned a valuable  lesson on how a team so hell bent on destruction can cannibalized its own incestuous tribe.  Lets get it together NOBs

The lessons continued as the night moved on to Lansdown St where the undergrads proved they could party like true maddogs, and the alumni proved they could still out-last them, I saw way more alumni at closing than undergrads, (not that I would have recognized any of those ugly kids)  - age and wisdom my friends.

What a hell of a weekend boys!

Finally A Future Maddog To The Mix.

Another reason to get to alumni weekend.  Vedder has reproduced and we need to see what crazy affect that will have on his naked pond acrobatics.  Congratulations Chris and family!  From what I hear of the undergrad side, the newborn may be able to boot up this weekend at flanker and have an immediate impact for their club. Connor was born on Cinco De Mayo at 2:36 pm.

NOBs Continue to reproduce.

Much congratulations are in order to Mr. Mike Walsh and Mr. Pukey Dave Alpert.   Both men have added little girls to the FONUR family.  This now makes 5 consecutive females born to Maddog alum, including my own and Mr. Mikey Scott.  Revenge for our successes my friends, or gifts?  Where are the future Maddogs at?

Mike's daughter, Lina Rose, was born on April 19th at 3:42 pm.  She weighed 7 pounds, 1 oz and was 19 inches.

Dave's daughter Mackenzie was born during a private ritual involving sub sandwiches and a putter.  No further detail are available.

Maddog Fundraising Efforts Receive University Recognition.

FONURs fundraising efforts this past spring received recognition in the most recent edition of the NU Alumni Magazine.  Check out the game photo on page 55.  I am confident that after this coming June they will have to dedicate an entire page to us.

And speaking of the alumni game, let's all start praying to the rugby gods for sub-100o weather for the game, but regardless, the undergrads are doomed!  Start digging for the change in your pockets and I will see you in June!
