By: Lilliam Wong

The Maddogs played another full slate of games this weekend as the A Side took on Boston College and the B/C Side played Dartmouth and Brandeis in the second week of the Spring Shorties season.

The A Side took on BC at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton on Saturday. Kick-off was at noon and early on the match was a back and forth battle for field position. BC got on the scoreboard first with a try from their pack. The conversion was good making the score 7-0. Minutes later the Maddogs answered back with an offensive push deep into the Eagles half of the field. A scrum from 5 meters out led to a score from scrum half Mason Gingras. Ben Miller converted the kick to even the score at 7-7. The match went into the half with the score still tied at 7-7.

The second half started with BC on the offensive. Less than 10 minutes in the Eagles were able to score a try under the posts from a meter out. The conversion was good making the score 14-7. Down 7 with plenty of time on the clock, the Maddogs were able to penetrate deep into the BC defensive zone and had a scrum from 5 meters out following a penalty on BC. Northeastern was unable to convert any points however as a knock-on gave BC a scrum and eventual kick out of their defensive end. BC was able to gain momentum off their defensive stand and put another try on the board in the corner with twenty minutes left in the game. The conversion missed short making the score 19-7. BC added another score late to finish the scoring.
Final Score: BC 24 Northeastern 7

On Friday night the Maddogs B/C side traveled to Brandeis for the second week of the Spring Shorties Tournament. In their first match Northeastern faced off against the Dartmouth C side. Dartmouth dominated the match, utilizing their larger and more experienced pack. Dartmouth was able to score on a number of picks from their forwards and Northeastern had no answer.
Final Score: Dartmouth 49 Northeastern 0

In their second match of the night the Maddogs faced the Brandeis A side. Both teams came into the game winless in the Spring Shorties season. Brandeis was able to take the early lead with a try up the middle from 10 meters out to make the score 5-0. Northeastern responded with a score from their forwards to even the score at 5-5. The game stayed tied until the final minutes. The Maddogs were able to add the go ahead try with less than 5 minutes left in the game. The conversion was unsuccessful making the score 10-5. Northeastern’s defense was able to hold on and secure the win.
Final Score: Brandeis 5 Northeastern 10
