Maddogs Visit Rehab Center in Asuncion, Paraguay

On Monday March 5, 2007, the Maddogs visited the Foundation of Solidarity as part of their Spring Break Tour of South America. The Foundation is a government recognized non-profit organization chartered in 1969 that works with physically disabled and injured citizens.
In Paraguay, children born with physical disabilities or adults who suffer debilitating injuries are treated very differently than in the US. There are no rehabilitation centers, and surgeries are very costly and dangerous. In most instances, people are left on the street or in the ghettoes to fend for themselves. For children the outlook is even more depressing. In most cases, children are not even allowed to attend school because there are no aides or nurses to help them.
The Foundation of Solidarity’s mission is to help these under-privileged and under-cared for people. Their approach focuses both on physical and psychological strengthening and improvement. Their goal is to not only become a leader in rehabilitation and care for disabled citizens but to also promote social awareness among the citizens of Paraguay. Their hope is that through improved research and funding, they are able to acclimate the physically disabled to society as accepted and productive individuals.
During their time at the facility, the team took a tour of the grounds and met with both patients and staff. Before leaving, the Maddogs made a small donation to the Foundation.
