Maddogs Fall to Army in Season Opener
Monday September 18, 2006
by Ross Shepard
The Northeastern University Maddogs traveled to West Point, NY this Saturday to take on the Black Knights of Army. This was the second trip in as many years to the United States Military Academy for NU. The lack of a monsoon on Saturday made this year's trip a bit easier.
The good spirits didn't last long, as Army scored their first try only a few minutes into the match. The Maddogs didn't just roll over for a side that ranks #3 in the nation, as they countered with a try and conversion of their own on a nice run from the back line and a final solid push from the forwards. The Dogs added one more try to put the score at 31-14 going into halftime.
Army pulled away in the second half, capitalizing on some breakdowns in the Northeastern defense. The Maddogs remained steady and never quit, fighting the Black Knights until the final whistle was blown on a 64-14 match.
The Dogs welcome the Amherst College Lord Jeffs to Parson's Field this Saturday September 23 for their first home game at 12:15 pm. Come out and see the Maddogs bounce back and fight to even out their record.
